Personally, I like companies such as Associated, DuraTrax, HPI, Kyosho, Tamiya, and Traxxas. These companies have been in the remote control hobby industry for quite some time, and are well known for producing high quality products made in the USA or Japan. Some Tamiya models are actually made in my home country, the Philippines.
Newer companies, such a CEN and Smartech, produce cheap rc trucks, which are usually made in China. I have never tried them, so I cannot really recommend or not recommend them. But if you are on a tight budget, and would just like to try out the hobby, then you might consider these models.
